Warm birthday greetings to Dr. Sanjay Kala, a senior medical professional who currently serves as Principal and Dean of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial (GSVM) Medical College, Kanpur.

Dr. Kala has been at the helm of GSVM since 2022. A seasoned general and laparoscopic surgeon, he brings more than two decades of clinical and academic experience to the role. He is a Professor in the Department of General Surgery, with expertise in laparoscopic procedures, proctology, and the management of complex conditions such as appendicitis, gallstones, and hernias.

His association with GSVM Medical College began in 2003. Over the years, he rose through the ranks and became Head of the Department of Surgery in 2010. Earlier in his career, he worked at Apollo Hospital and later at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi, gaining valuable exposure in tertiary care settings.

Dr. Kala completed his MBBS from Sarojini Naidu Medical College, Agra, and went on to earn his MS in Surgery from the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University. Alongside clinical work, he has remained actively involved in research, with studies published on subjects ranging from critical limb ischemia to evolving surgical techniques.

As a teacher and mentor, he is widely regarded for guiding medical students and young aspirants preparing for competitive examinations. In his administrative role, he oversees both the academic functioning of the college and the operations of its associated hospitals. In recent years, he has led audits and infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving healthcare delivery in Kanpur.

A skilled surgeon, Dr. Kala is known for procedures such as laser surgery for piles, varicose veins, and fistulas, as well as thyroid and hernia surgeries. He has also held leadership positions in the State Surgeon Association, serving as both Secretary and President.

His contribution during the COVID-19 pandemic drew particular attention. Under his leadership, GSVM Medical College strengthened hospital preparedness, expanded infrastructure, and managed patient care through successive waves of the crisis.

With more than 27 research publications and over 150 academic citations to his credit, Dr. Kala continues to balance clinical excellence, academic leadership, and institutional stewardship.
