A young doctor once asked him, “Sir, how did you turn a single clinic into the world’s largest chain of homeopathy clinics?”
Dr. Mukesh Batra replied with a smile, “In the early days people did not take homeopathy seriously. I had to borrow money at 36 per cent interest just to open my first clinic. I believed that if we combined classical homeopathy with modern systems, technology and consistent quality, it could reach far more people. The doctor in me keeps the entrepreneur honest — medicine must always come before business.”
That belief built a global brand.
Mukesh Batra was born on 1 July 1951 in Lucknow. Both his parents were doctors — his father a homeopath and his mother an allopath. The family later lived in Agra before settling in Mumbai. He studied at Campion School and Jai Hind College, and graduated in homeopathy from the Bombay Homeopathic Medical College (Smt. Chandaben Mohanbhai Patel Homeopathic Medical College) in 1972.
He began practising in 1974 at a charitable homeopathy clinic in Malabar Hill, Mumbai, where he saw hundreds of patients daily for a modest salary. After a few years he started a private practice and, in 1982, opened his own clinic — Positive Health Clinic — in Chowpatty, South Mumbai. He took a bank loan at an unusually high interest rate of 36 per cent because lenders considered homeopathy a high-risk venture. That single clinic became the foundation of Dr Batra’s.
Dr. Batra is widely credited with modernising and standardising homeopathy in India. He introduced computerisation and electronic medical records in his clinic as early as 1982, one of the first in the world to do so. He also pioneered blister packaging of homeopathic medicines and built a professional, multi-doctor clinic model instead of the traditional single-practitioner setup. Over the decades Dr Batra’s grew into the world’s largest chain of homeopathy clinics, with more than 200 clinics across 150 cities in India and presence in several other countries including the UAE, UK, Bangladesh and others. The group also expanded into wellness products and aesthetic centres.
He has treated over a million patients, including heads of state, politicians, industrialists and film personalities, while continuing to emphasise accessible care. Through the Dr Batra’s Positive Health Foundation (established 2001) he runs free clinics and supports NGOs, old-age homes and orphanages. He has authored several popular books on homeopathy, written regular health columns (including in The Times of India), and promoted the system through lectures and research.
The Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri in 2012 for his contribution to medicine (homeopathy). He has received numerous other national and international honours, including honorary fellowships from British and American homeopathic institutions, and recognition for making homeopathy more credible and accessible at scale.
Even after five decades in practice and building a large organisation, Dr. Batra remains focused on the same principles.

From a charitable clinic and a high-interest loan in 1982 to creating a multi-country healthcare brand, standardising modern homeopathy practice, and receiving the Padma Shri, Dr. Mukesh Batra has played a major role in bringing homeopathy into the mainstream of Indian and global healthcare.
