The Master of the Heart’s Rhythm

In the classrooms of Maulana Azad Medical College in Delhi, Balbir Singh began the long journey that would make him one of India’s foremost cardiologists and electrophysiologists. He earned his MBBS in 1983, his MD in Medicine in 1987, and his DM in Cardiology from G.B. Pant Hospital in 1992. A Fellowship of the American College of Cardiology later crowned years of rigorous training.

He served as Associate Professor of Cardiology at AIIMS, then moved through senior positions at Batra Hospital, Fortis Heart Institute, Apollo Hospital, and a decade as Chairman of Interventional Cardiology and Electrophysiology at Medanta – The Medicity. In 2019 he joined Max Healthcare as Chairman of Cardiology across the entire network, guiding clinical standards, research, training, and the DNB programme in cardiology.

Dr. Balbir Singh is recognised as a pioneer in interventional cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology. He has performed complex angioplasties, arrhythmia ablations, pacemaker and device implantations, and advanced procedures that restore normal rhythm to troubled hearts. His work has been entered in the Limca Book of Records for contributions to the Indian Electrophysiology Journal. He has served as President of the Indian Heart Rhythm Society and of the Delhi chapter of the Cardiological Society of India.

In 2007 the Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri for his distinguished service to medicine. Other honours include the Golden Hand Award, recognition as Best Operator at major international meetings, and numerous named orations.

Today, at Max Super Speciality Hospital in Saket and across the Max network, Prof. Balbir Singh continues to treat the most complex cardiac cases, train the next generation of cardiologists, and refine the techniques that save lives. In the catheter laboratories where blocked arteries are opened and irregular rhythms are corrected, his steady hands and quiet expertise remain a source of hope for patients and a standard of excellence for the profession.
