Deepak Sehgal

The Guardian of Young Lives

Born in the mid-1950s, Deepak Sehgal graduated MBBS from Agra University in 1975 and completed his MD in Paediatrics from the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, in 1980. He dedicated his career to the care of children, rising to become Director and CEO of Phoenix Hospital in Greater Kailash, New Delhi.

For more than four decades he has practised as a paediatrician, focusing on growth and development, adolescent medicine, disorders of puberty, vaccination, nutritional assessment and the management of complex paediatric surgical conditions. Thousands of families in Delhi have trusted his calm expertise for everything from routine immunisations to intricate neonatal and childhood surgeries. He has also contributed to medical education and remained an active member of the Indian Medical Association and the Delhi Medical Council.

In recognition of his long service to children’s health, the Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri in 2008. Other honours followed, including the Best Citizen of India Award and the Bharat Gaurav.

Today, at Phoenix Hospital, Dr. Deepak Sehgal continues to examine, counsel and operate with the same steady dedication that has defined his career. In the consulting rooms where anxious parents find reassurance and in the recovery wards where young patients regain their strength, his lifelong commitment endures—protecting the health and future of the next generation with skill, patience and quiet compassion.
