The Bridge Between Continents in Orthopaedics

Born in Bihar to Mohan Tibrewal, Sheo Bhagwan Tibrewal graduated in medicine from Ranchi University in 1973. He then crossed the seas to the United Kingdom, where he trained at some of the finest centres of orthopaedic excellence—the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, St Bartholomew’s Hospital, and the Royal London Hospital. He completed his specialist training from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1991 and became a Fellow of that college as well as of the International College of Surgeons.

For more than four decades he has practised as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in London, serving at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and other leading institutions. His expertise spans the full range of trauma and orthopaedic surgery, with particular distinction in arthroscopic procedures of the knee, shoulder and ankle, as well as foot and ankle surgery and the management of complex joint disorders. He has also contributed as a Research Fellow at the University of Oxford and as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at King’s College London GKT School of Medical Education, training the next generation of surgeons.

Even while building a distinguished career in Britain, he remained closely connected to India. He has served as a mentor at the Advanced Medicare and Research Institute in Kolkata and has been recognised by the Indian diaspora. In 2004 the NRI Institute in London awarded him the Pride of India Gold Award. Three years later, in 2007, the Government of India conferred the Padma Shri upon him for his contributions to medicine.

Listed in Marquis Who’s Who and a former President of the Orthopaedic Section of the Royal Society of Medicine, Dr. Sheo Bhagwan Tibrewal continues to combine clinical skill, academic teaching and a quiet sense of service. In the operating theatres of London and in the advice he offers colleagues in India, he stands as a living bridge—carrying the highest standards of orthopaedic care across continents while never forgetting the land of his birth.
