Dr. Narendra Kumar Pandey (N.K. Pandey) is a distinguished Indian surgeon specialising in general, laparoscopic and thoracic surgery. He is the founder, Chairman and Managing Director of the Asian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) in Faridabad and a recipient of the Padma Shri (2014) and the Dr. B.C. Roy National Award.

Born on 1 January 1951 in Bishnupura village, Saran district, Bihar, to Jagat Pandey and Vidya Pandey, he completed his MBBS from Patna Medical College in 1974. He later obtained fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS) and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (FRCS Glasgow), and became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the International College of Surgeons (FICS).

Dr. Pandey built a reputation as an expert in abdominal and thoracic surgery, with particular pioneering work in video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and minimally invasive techniques. He held senior positions, including Executive Director and Director of the Department of Surgery at Escorts Hospital and Research Centre, Faridabad. He served as President of the Association of Surgeons of India and as a Trustee of the International College of Surgeons – India Section. He has also been an examiner and surgical tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

In 2010 he founded the Asian Institute of Medical Sciences, a 350-bed multi-super-speciality tertiary care hospital in Faridabad. The institute provides a full range of preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitative services and reflects his vision of delivering high-quality, accessible healthcare.

“Hard work and determination can turn any dream into reality,” he has said of his journey from a small Bihar village to building a major medical institution.

The Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri in 2014 for his contributions to medicine. He earlier received the Dr. B.C. Roy National Award (2008) for his work in minimal-access thoracic surgery, along with the Distinguished Service Award of the Delhi Doctors Association, the Betadine Achievement Award of the Association of Surgeons of India, and an honorary Doctor of Science from Teerthanker Mahaveer University.

Dr. Narendra Kumar Pandey continues to lead AIMS and remains active in surgical practice and medical education, combining clinical skill with a commitment to building institutions that serve patients across socio-economic backgrounds.
