She completed her MBBS in Dec 1954 & then she took MS General surgery.There was bias and gender discrimination & was not allowed to even scrub and be a part of surgical team during residency.She had to appear 12 times to pass her MS exit exams.Then in March 1968 ( 14 years later) she finally obtained her MS General surgery degree.Then she joined Dept of Neurosurgery at Madras medical College.She was the first neurosurgeon in south Asia to introduce chronic electrode implantation in brain

She was a pioneer in promoting functional neurosurgery.She donated blood 139 times( Limca record).She died on 14th nov 2018.
She is Asia’s first women Neurosurgeon Dr kanaka
